The Yass Valley will benefit from $440,000 in Federal investment in the Yass Memorial Pool if the Coalition is elected to Government with a Nationals’ Member for Riverina.
The funding is necessary to complete heating system upgrades for which Yass Swimming Club secured a grant from the New South Wales Government in 2024.
“Individuals and community groups across the Yass Valley will be excited to see the heating upgrades for the Yass Memorial Pool finally finished when the Coalition delivers the funding necessary to upgrade the pool’s power supply system, a prerequisite for installing a heating system,” Mr McCormack said.
“Of the $440,000 we are putting on the table, $340,000 will be used to deliver the power supply upgrade, whilst $100,000 will be used for an immediate pool rework, including leak detection, reseal and paint for the existing structure.
“This funding will be delivered to Yass Swimming Club, which is the proponent of the pool upgrades.
“It is absolutely crucial that this funding is secured and these upgrades are finished.
“Without this funding, completion of the pool’s already-funded heating system will not be able to proceed.
“This upgrade is not a new ambition — it is a long-overdue piece of work that has stalled the progress of several much-needed improvements at the facility.
“The Yass community has waited too long for this upgrade and it is time action is taken.
“But only a Nationals’ Member for Riverina and a Coalition Government can deliver it.”
President of the Yass Swimming Club Hugh Rainger has welcomed the announcement and its benefits for the community.
“This is a wonderful step forward for the community of Yass and surrounds into the improvement of one if its most important facilities,” Mr Rainger said.
“Local pools are at the heart of many towns in regional Australia and is only logical that we invest this money to deliver these crucial upgrades.
“Swimming is such a vital part of any child’s life and to have a local pool at which children can grow, learn and benefit from well into the future is just so valuable.”
Member for Riverina Michael McCormack shares Mr Rainger’s confidence in the upgrade being appreciated by the community.
“I know many in the Yass community will be hoping for a change in Government to see these upgrades finally take place,” Mr McCormack said.
“There are schools, sports clubs as well as aged-care and disability groups who all make use of the facility.
“In fact, an average of about 200 people use the pool each day. All of whom will benefit from the upgrades.
“A heated pool will also extend the pool’s operation season by up to two months, supporting greater participation and event opportunities.
“This is something I know the community wants delivered and will be so if I am re-elected as Member for Riverina and the Coalition wins Government.”
