A Federal Coalition Government will deliver shade sails over five Coolamon Shire Council playgrounds, making them Sun safe for families, the Nationals’ Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack, has announced.
“Temperatures in Summer, we know, can reach 40 degrees or more, so it is really important we have shade over playgrounds where our children enjoy outdoor play to protect them,” Mr McCormack said.
“Even when the heat is not extreme UV rays can cause skin damage.
“The shade sails will allow families to make more use of the playground knowing they are sun safe.”
Playgrounds which would be covered are:
- Redgrave Park, Coolamon (two playgrounds)
- Victory Park, Ganmain
- Lions Park, Ardlethan
- Beckom Park
Mr McCormack said a Federal Coalition Government would commit $220,000 towards the $300,000 project.
Coolamon Shire Mayor, Councillor David McCann OAM, said Council was very appreciative of the project being considered.
“It’s essential for the wellbeing of our young families in our shire that the playground facilities are adequately protected by shade sails and this will go a long way to improve the amenities in Coolamon Shire,” Councillor McCann said.
“I think the community will be very excited.
“We have provided playground facilities in our town and villages but now we need to put shade sails up for protection of users.”
Cr McCann thanked Mr McCormack for fighting for Coolamon families.
“Michael has always been in touch with what our community’s needs are and is always prepared to fight to deliver them,” Cr McCann said.
Mr McCormack said the investment was part of The Nationals’ continuing commitment to delivering better facilities for rural and regional Australians.
