McCormack Delivers Headspace for Griffith

THE Nationals’ Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has today announced a new headspace facility for Griffith and the western Riverina.

“I am delighted to confirm a headspace facility will be built in Griffith as part of the 15 new headspaces throughout Australia funded in this year’s Budget,” Mr McCormack said.

“Better mental health services are vital in country communities, particularly for young people, as mental illness amongst those aged 25 and under makes up three quarters of cases treated in Australia.

“This new headspace facility in Griffith will provide mental health services to people from Griffith and the western Riverina aged between 12 and 25,” Mr McCormack said.

Mr McCormack has made mental health a significant priority for him in Federal Parliament, including giving several speeches about the need for better mental health services in regional areas and a headspace in Griffith.

“I am pleased to have been able to work with the community, including local advocates, Councils and the thousands of people who contacted me indicating their support for a headspace facility in Griffith.

“Special mention must also be made of Jenna Thornton, whom I first met with in February 2013 to start this campaign,” Mr McCormack said

“I fought hard for this in Canberra and am pleased to be able to deliver this important facility for Griffith and the western Riverina.”
