Riverina and Central West volunteers receive funding for their valuable work
Almost 70 community and volunteer groups in the Riverina and Central West are to share in and benefit from $10 million in grants recently announced by the Australian Government to support the nearly 100,000 volunteers in Australia.
Federal Member for Riverina and Minister for Small Business Michael McCormack has welcomed the funding as an investment in volunteers and small community organisations who deliver vital support services and assistance to the young, the elderly and so many of our most vulnerable citizens.
“The grants provided range from $1,000 to $5,000 and enable local organisations to better support their volunteers by purchasing much-needed equipment, training and transport,” Mr McCormack said.
“I’m so pleased these Volunteer Grants will assist a wide range of groups across the electorate, including funding of $4,270 for the Junee High School Parents and Friends for the purchase of whitegoods and kitchen equipment, $4,000 for the Trundle War Memorial School of Arts to purchase furniture and indoor appliances, $2,000 for Mirrool Creek Landcare to purchase computer equipment and $1,354 for electronic equipment to support the Cowra Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society.
“These Volunteer Grants will give a much-needed financial boost to organisations from sporting and service clubs, educational and social organisations to advocacy and cultural groups and while these amounts of funding may seem small, I know they have a significant impact on the ability of volunteer groups to be able to undertake the invaluable work they do in our communities.
“While I haven’t had the opportunity to meet and thank all of the volunteers in the Riverina and Central West, I was pleased at the conclusion of National Volunteers Week to meet with volunteers in Lockhart for a community barbecue to say thank you for their efforts, for the countless hours of time and labour they offer in the service of others, to give a helping hand and make our towns and villages such wonderful places to live.
“Congratulations to all groups who will receive funding as part of the Volunteer Grants program and may they continue to be supported by government and the community so they can continue their valuable work.”
