A LOCAL CHAMPION FOR MALLEE’S FUTURE
COMMUNITY advocate Anne Webster will contest Mallee for The Nationals and bring experience, passion and commitment to the role.
Nationals’ Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said Dr Webster’s years of experience around the Mallee electorate will be an asset to The Nationals’ team.
“I know Anne is a driven and passionate advocate for communities around the Mallee electorate and I look forward to working with her,” Mr McCormack said.
“Her experience in founding Zoe Support, a not-for-profit connecting Mildura mothers to job and education opportunities, as well as her background in fighting for the education and health services regional areas deserve, is exactly the sort of values and ideas we want in The Nationals.
“Anne has already been out and about meeting with local mayors, community groups and locals, and I am sure she will hit the ground running to meet as many people as she can over the coming weeks and months.”
Mr McCormack said Dr Webster has identified several key issues she wants to work on as The Nationals’ candidate.
“Already, Anne has put issues such as roads, rail, water and energy on the agenda for the Mallee electorate. These are the issues key to Mallee’s future and I know Anne is keen to meet with stakeholders, farmers, small businesspeople and the community to ensure local communities get the attention and investment they deserve,” Mr McCormack said.
“Whether it’s investing in local roads and rail, securing local water through encouraging states to apply for an extra $500 million to build dams or tax cuts for small business to their lowest level since World War II, The Nationals in Government have a comprehensive plan for communities around Mallee.
“The Nationals’ pre-selections are always decided by local, grassroots members and ensure local people are at the heart of local decisions and local campaigns. There were around 200 pre-selectors and six outstanding candidates who put their hand up.
“Dr Anne Webster will be a fantastic candidate for The Nationals and I am excited to join her as we put The Nationals’ positive plans for Mallee’s future to communities around the electorate this year.”
