A NEW LOOK FOR MERIMBULA’S VISITOR INFORMATION CENTRE

The new-look Merimbula Visitor Information Centre has reopened in the town’s central shopping precinct, supporting tourism and local businesses on Far South Coast of New South Wales.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack, who attended today’s opening, said the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s $50,450 investment had preserved and improved an important community facility.

“The new Visitor Information Centre will assist tourists and provide travel options, maps and local information to help them explore Merimbula and the beautiful Sapphire Coast,” Mr McCormack said.

Senator for New South Wales Jim Molan AO DSC said the funding would deliver important economic benefits to local tradespeople and businesses in Merimbula.

“The new centre will improve connections between businesses and visitors, which is a fantastic way to encourage tourism and increase sales and volunteering opportunities in the region,” Senator Molan said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional New South Wales John Barilaro said the construction and internal fit-out of the new centre had employed local tradespeople and used locally-sourced materials.

“There’s no better way to boost growth and job opportunities than by actually making use of the businesses in your community – something I’m happy to say this project has done,” Mr Barilaro said.

Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor Councillor Kristy McBain said the new information centre represented a great show of support for the future of tourism not only in Merimbula, but across the Shire.

“The new home has provided the dedicated staff and volunteers with a site befitting the wonderful work they do to promote our Shire as a destination and our local businesses,” Cr McBain said.

The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government invested $50,450 under the Building Better Regions Fund – an $841 million investment designed to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.

The New South Wales Government also contributed $25,000, Bega Valley Shire Council $25,000 and Merimbula Tourism Incorporated $450.
