LOCAL GRANTS TO HELP RIVERINA AND CENTRAL WEST CELEBRATE NAIDOC WEEK 2020

NAIDOC Week begins today and runs until 15 November and several organisations throughout the Riverina and Central West will share in more than $18,000 to help celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture.

The grants for the Riverina electorate are part of the Federal Government’s $1.4 million program to support local organisations to celebrate the week.

Riverina MP and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack is encouraging the whole community to get involved in community events to learn more about the local Indigenous culture and share in the traditions which make Australia unique.

“The Wiradjuri people are a proud people with a proud history,” Mr McCormack said.

“This passion was on full display during the Corroboree held last year at the Marrambidya Wetland, which organisers said was the first in Wagga Wagga in 150 years.

“It was a spectacular display of the whole community coming together in the spirit of healing and heritage.”

This year’s theme is Always Was, Always Will Be which aims to highlight Australia’s ancient history and to celebrate the traditions and cultures which endure to this day.
