MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SHEDS WIN DEDUCTIBLE GIFT STATUS

The Federal Government has delivered on a promise to back the hundreds of Men’s and Women’s Sheds providing support to Australians of all walks of life by granting access to Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, Member for Riverina and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has announced.

“I have been to many Sheds around the Riverina and Central West I am always impressed by the fantastic work they do for our communities,” Mr McCormack said.

“They are not only great organisations working hard for our cities, towns and villages, they also are places where people go for friendship and support.

“You cannot put a price on that.”

Mr McCormack said the well-deserved access to DGR status would deliver new fund-raising potential for Men’s and Women’s Sheds.

“This means is you can claim an income tax deduction when donating $2 or more to your local Shed, provided they register with the Australian Tax Office for this status,” Mr McCormack said.

Mr McCormack met recently with the Temora Shed 4 Men after announcing a $6,704 grant and was told of its work in the community and plans to use the grant to upgrade the shed’s kitchen.

Assistant Minister for Finance, Charities and Electoral Matters, Senator Zed Seselja, said this legislation was welcome to support Sheds in accessing fundraising.

“I am proud that through delivering DGR status for Sheds the Government is partnering with the public in each donation they make, offering a tax deduction for those who donate to Sheds and incentivising more Australians and philanthropists to support their local Shed and the amazing work they do,” Assistant Minister Seselja said.
