WAGGA WAGGA AGED CARE RESIDENTS TO RECEIVE VACCINE TODAY
Wagga Wagga’s aged care residents will be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine today after Health Care Australia made the late decision to reschedule its planned vaccination days earlier this week.
Deputy Prime Minister and Riverina MP Michael McCormack said Wagga Wagga was well placed to receive the vaccine, despite the minor delay.
“Wagga Wagga, and indeed regional Australia, is in an enviable position compared to most of the world when it comes to COVID-19 – we have not had a local case for many months,” Mr McCormack said.
“We have been our best selves right throughout this pandemic and I thank everyone for doing their part and continuing to be patient as the vaccination roll-out continues.
“This is one of the largest logistical challenges our country has ever undertaken and there may be more hiccups along the way, including accommodating vaccine delivery windows, workforce availability, consent arrangements and cold-chain management.
“The Federal Government is committed to ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to all residential aged care vaccination sites.”
Residents in aged care facilities and frontline workers will be vaccinated first as part of a staged
roll-out of the vaccination program which prioritises those most at risk.
“We will continue to take the best medical advice as this important next step to fight COVID-19 is under way,” Mr McCormack said.
“We want and need to get Australia back to some sort of pre-COVID normality and we can all do this together through this vaccination program.
“More sites will be announced in coming weeks which will include more rural and regional locations, including GP-led Respiratory Clinics, GPs, community pharmacies and State-based vaccination clinics throughout the Riverina and Central West.”
