RIVERINA LOOKS TO RICH HISTORY TO REIGNITE TOURISM

Tarcutta will honour its military and settler past with a mural and history project backed by a $30,000 grant from the Federal Government.

Deputy Prime Minister and Riverina MP Michael McCormack said he was proud the Government was supporting the artwork, which tells the story of Tarcutta’s returned soldiers and the community’s original founders.

“The visually striking mural will encourage visitors to the region to stop and take the time to explore this historic town,” Mr McCormack said.

“The project received funding through the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grants program to encourage tourists to re-discover regional Australia.

“Our Government is supporting projects that help attract tourists to regional Australia, supporting local jobs and businesses.”

Wagga Wagga City Council Community Director, Janice Summerhayes, said the mural would provide long-term value to the region.

“It’s projects like this, that celebrate the history and character of a community, that really yield the best dividends, both in terms of supporting community recovery and providing more reasons for visitors to our region to stop and explore,” Ms Summerhayes said.

“This mural will respectfully reflect on Tarcutta’s residents who served in our armed forces and tell the story of the returned soldiers who helped established the Tarcutta District.”
