REINSTATEMENT OF VITAL AVIATION WEATHER SERVICE AT TEMORA AIRPORT

Temora’s successful aviation sector is set to soar even higher after a review resulted in vital aerodrome weather forecast services being reinstated about six years after being removed.

Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) services are one of the most important forecasts produced by the Bureau of Meteorology for the aviation industry to support safe and effective aviation and planning.

“The restoration of TAF services is a just reward for Temora Shire Council which has fought hard for this outcome, has never given up, because Mayor Rick Firman and his team know how important this service is to the successful and growing aviation sector at Temora,” said Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack.

TAF services were removed from Temora following a previous review, in 2015.

The latest review found there was a demonstrated aviation industry requirement for TAF services at the Temora aerodrome, which is home to the Temora Aviation Museum and the venue for the popular Warbirds Downunder air shows.

The services will be reinstated on 2 December 2021.

Temora Mayor Councillor Rick Firman OAM said Council and the community were extremely pleased with the news services were being reinstated.

“Council has worked closely with Mr McCormack to advocate and lobby for the reinstatement of the TAF service, which was crucial to the viability of current and proposed ongoing expansion of our aviation-related activities. Council warmly thanks Mr McCormack for his relentless advocacy of TAF services being re-established here in Temora Shire,” Cr Firman said.

“Mr McCormack knows how essential TAF is for us, for so many reasons. Our Aviation Park Estate is growing at a rapid rate, our Temora Aviation Museum is also expanding and there are other exciting plans in the pipeline.

“It’s certainly very welcome news and we are most grateful. Council also acknowledges Environment Minister Sussan Ley who took time to meet with us and we won’t forget her belief in us as a Shire community”.
