VETERANS’ AFFAIRS MINISTER TO VISIT WAGGA WAGGA

Federal Government Veterans’ Affairs Minister Matt Keogh will be in Wagga Wagga on Tuesday 21 November.

Member for Riverina Michael McCormack said he looked forward to welcoming the Minister to the city, where he plans to visit a number of facilities.

“Wagga Wagga is a garrison city – a tri-service centre with a large Veteran population, so I am pleased Minister Matt Keogh will be visiting,” Mr McCormack said.

“It will be a great opportunity for local Veteran support organisations to show the Minister the great work they do for those who have served our nation with pride and honour.”

Mr McCormack has been a strong advocate for the establishment of a dedicated Veterans’ Wellbeing Centre in the city.

He announced a $5 million commitment for such a facility during the 2022 Federal election campaign.

Mr McCormack has continued to push for funding so Veterans in the Wagga Wagga region can receive better support.

Last week, Mr McCormack was at the Pro Patria Centre to listen to Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association Chair Ian Lindgren, a former Kapooka Adjutant, who gave an update on the Association’s view on changes to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

“Our Veterans deserve all the support they can get,” Mr McCormack said.

“Funding to improve local services would be very warmly welcomed by Veterans and their loved ones as well as the wider Wagga Wagga community.

“I am hopeful a good outcome can come out of the Minister’s visit on Tuesday.”

Minister Keogh is expected to be in Wagga Wagga from 11am on Tuesday.
