McCORMACK SLAMS LABOR’S TAX CUT BETRAYAL

Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has slammed Labor’s betrayal of its 2022 election commitment to retain the stage 3 tax cuts which were legislated by the former Liberal and Nationals Government.

“What we are seeing here is yet another broken promise by the Albanese Labor Government, one which demonstrates Labor’s contempt for the Australian voter,” Mr McCormack said.

“In its 2022 election campaign, Labor promised it would be a more honest and transparent Government, with Prime Minister Albanese himself saying he’d ‘do politics better’.

“Apparently, this meant Labor would betray voters and taxpayers who had thought they could trust Labor with their vote.

“After months of Albanese dodging the question as to whether he planned to change the stage 3 tax cuts, the truth has finally been revealed, with tradies, farmers, business owners and working professionals across the Riverina and Central West set to be left short-changed.

“As part of Labor’s cost-of-living crisis we saw inflation surge, peaking at 7.8 per cent.

“Anyone whose wage increased to keep up with inflation has been liable to bracket creep, paying higher rates of tax despite not receiving any increase to real wages.

“The stage 3 tax cuts would have compensated taxpayers for the cumulative effect of bracket creep in the past few years, but Labor doesn’t see it that way — instead believing it knows how to better spend your hard-earned money.

“This is not the first time Labor has betrayed voters and certainly won’t be the last.

“Let’s not forget Albanese’s promise of a $275 power price cut — a promise he made on 97 occasions.

“With no power price cuts in sight, it’s clear Labor’s strategy is to make promises and hope the public forgets about them.”
