TEMORA’S SHED 4 MEN TO RECEIVE FEDERAL FUNDING TO UPGRADE KITCHEN
Riverina MP and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack was in Temora on Monday to visit Temora’s Shed 4 Men and to announce funding to upgrade its kitchen area.
Mr McCormack said the Federal Government recognised the importance of these organisations, which is why it had invested $5.4 million since 2013 to support Men’s Sheds across the nation.
“While the funding of $6,704.50 is a small amount of money, it will make such a big difference for the members of Temora’s Shed 4 Men, which has been up and running for about 13 years,” Mr McCormack said.
“This funding is being delivered through the Federal Government’s National Shed Development Programme, which is now in its 20th round and has given a much-needed boost to Men’s Sheds across Australia.
“In previous rounds of the programme, funding has been given to Men’s Sheds across the Riverina, including at Ariah Park, The Grange at Wagga Wagga, and at Forbes.
“We know these meeting places are so important to assist men in getting the social support they need and to help get them involved in meaningful community projects.”
Temora Shed 4 Men president Howard Ruth said the money would be put towards making the existing kitchen more functional and safer.
The Federal Government awards grants to Men’s Sheds in three categories – health and wellbeing events, shed improvements and equipment.
Minister for Health Greg Hunt said belonging to a social group was vitally important for emotional and mental health.
“Men’s Sheds area a fantastic way for men to stay connected with their communities,” Minister Hunt said.
Minster for Regional Health Mark Coulton said these organisations were particularly important for regional, rural and remote communities across the country.
“In many parts of the bush, local Men’s Sheds are fast becoming one of the most important organisations, one where members make connections and serve their community,” Minister Coulton said.
More than 6,000 men across Australia are expected to benefit from the programme, with 121 Men’s Sheds receiving funding under this round.
